Winter Solstice

Every year the Arkansas Society of Freethinkers erects a display on the grounds of the Arkansas State Capitol that explains the winter solstice. The winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year. Many cultures and religions have major celebrations at the solstice. Follow the links to the panels or to other sites below to learn more about the physics that causes the solstice, legends connected to this important day, solstice celebrations, and more. And just for the history, here’s our original Winter Solstice Display and the story behind it!
